Susan Collins

Suzanne Collins (born August 10, 1962) is an American television writer and bestselling author, best known for The Hunger Games trilogy. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, and raised in a military family—her father served as a U.S. Air Force officer in the Vietnam War—Collins developed a lasting interest in the themes of war, survival, and social justice that would later define her fiction. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in drama and telecommunications, then earned an MFA in dramatic writing from New York University. Her career began in children's television, writing scripts for Nickelodeon programs such as Clarissa Explains It All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo.

Collins achieved literary success with The Underland Chronicles (2003–2007), a five-part fantasy series beginning with Gregor the Overlander. However, international fame came with The Hunger Games (2008), followed by Catching Fire (2009) and Mockingjay (2010). This dystopian series, set in a post-apocalyptic society where children fight in a televised death match, has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and inspired a blockbuster film franchise. Her later works include the prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2020) and Sunrise on the Reaping (2025). Collins lives in Connecticut with her family.
