Pullman's most famous work is the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, consisting of "Northern Lights" (published as "The Golden Compass" in the United States, 1995), "The Subtle Knife" (1997), and "The Amber Spyglass" (2000). The trilogy follows the young heroine Lyra Belacqua through parallel universes and has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Carnegie Medal and the Whitbread Book of the Year—making "The Amber Spyglass" the first children's book ever to win that honor. The series has been adapted into a 2007 film and a popular BBC/HBO television series.
Beyond this trilogy, Pullman has written the Sally Lockhart mystery series, "La Belle Sauvage" and "The Secret Commonwealth" from "The Book of Dust" series, as well as several standalone novels and retellings of classic fairy tales. He remains one of Britain's most influential contemporary writers.
