The debut novel The Cartographer of Silence followed, tracing a mapmaker's search for a place that appears on no map, and established Iso's signature blend of realism and fable. Later works include Letters from the Inland Sea, an epistolary novel built from unsent letters spanning four decades, and A Field Guide to Vanishing Things, a collection of essays on objects, rituals, and landscapes that slip quietly out of existence.
Reviewers have praised Iso's restraint and precision, describing the writing as an exercise in attention, where small gestures carry enormous emotional weight. Translated into more than twenty languages, the books have appeared on shortlists for several international literary prizes and are frequently taught in courses on contemporary world literature.
The forthcoming novel The Weight of Weather is announced for release next year. Iso lives between Zurich and Lisbon, rarely gives interviews, and prefers to let the books speak instead.
