Brandt's debut novel, The Cartographer's Daughter (2014), traces three generations of women bound together by a secrets-laden family map, and established her reputation for blending domestic realism with quiet lyricism. Her story collection Small Hours (2016) captured moments of transition in ordinary lives with remarkable tenderness. Winter Arithmetic (2019), widely regarded as her masterpiece, follows a grieving translator in a snowbound coastal village as she reconstructs her past through letters. Her most recent novel, The Light Between Islands (2023), examines friendship, rivalry, and forgiveness across two decades.
Translated into more than fifteen languages, Brandt has been shortlisted for numerous international prizes, including the Dublin Literary Award. She lives in Copenhagen, where she writes and mentors emerging authors.
