The Little Match Girl

The Little Match Girl

"The Little Match Girl" is a poignant fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, published in 1845. On a freezing New Year's Eve, a poor young girl wanders the streets barefoot, trying to sell matches but daring not to return home empty-handed for fear of her father's anger. To keep warm, she strikes matches one by one, and each flame reveals beautiful visions: a warm stove, a lavish feast, a glowing Christmas tree, and finally her beloved deceased grandmother. As dawn breaks, the little girl is found frozen to death, her face smiling peacefully, as her grandmother's spirit carries her to heaven.
