In the magical land of Ingary, Sophie Hatter, the eldest of three sisters, believes she is doomed to a dull life. When the fearsome Witch of the Waste curses her with old age, Sophie leaves home and seeks refuge in the infamous moving castle of Wizard Howl—a heartless sorcerer rumored to devour young girls' souls. There, she strikes a bargain with Calcifer, a fire demon bound to the hearth, and becomes the castle's cleaning lady. As Sophie gradually discovers her own hidden powers, she uncovers Howl's secrets and learns that breaking curses requires courage, kindness, and believing in oneself.
