Rabbit Redux

Rabbit Redux

*Rabbit Redux* (1971), John Updike's second novel in the Rabbit series, finds Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom ten years older and adrift in the turbulent summer of 1969. Stuck in a dying job as a typesetter, he watches helplessly as his wife Janice drifts into an affair and his son Nelson grows distant. Rabbit takes in Jill, a runaway hippie teenager, and Skeeter, a radical Black Vietnam veteran, transforming his home into an unlikely commune. Against the backdrop of the moon landing, the Vietnam War, and racial unrest, Updike captures middle America in upheaval. After tragedy strikes, Rabbit and Janice stumble toward an uneasy reconciliation.
