A Double Barrelled Detective Story

A Double Barrelled Detective Story

"A Double Barrelled Detective Story" is a satirical novella by Mark Twain, first published in 1902. The story follows Archy Stillman, a young man gifted with a bloodhound-like sense of smell, who relentlessly pursues his cruel father, Jacob Fuller, across America to avenge the suffering his father inflicted on his mother. In the second half, Sherlock Holmes himself arrives in a California mining camp to investigate a mysterious murder, only for his celebrated deductive powers to lead him hilariously astray. Blending revenge, absurd humor, and parody, Twain cleverly mocks the romanticized detective heroes and their supposedly infallible logic.
