The Tin Woodman of Oz (1918), by L. Frank Baum, follows the Tin Woodman's quest to find Nimmie Amee, the Munchkin maiden he loved before a cursed axe turned him into a tin man. Accompanied by Woot the Wanderer, the Scarecrow, a sarcastic Glass Cat, and a mysterious Canary, he journeys through strange lands, meets the Tin Soldier—his old rival for Nimmie Amee's heart—and endures magical transformations by the wicked giantess Mrs. Yoop. At journey's end, they discover Nimmie Amee happily married to Chopfyt, a creature assembled from their discarded fleshly parts, and the Tin Woodman contentedly returns to rule the Winkies.
