Cory Doctorow's debut novel imagines a future where death is cured and money replaced by "Whuffie," a reputation-based currency. Jules, a young member of the Bitchun Society, resides in Disney World, managed by competing ad-hoc groups. After being murdered and restored from backup, he finds his Whuffie drained and suspects rival Dan of killing him over control of the Haunted Mansion. As Jules fights to save the beloved ride from automation, his obsession consumes him, straining relationships and exposing the dark side of post-scarcity life. Ultimately, he chooses mortality, departing the Magic Kingdom for an uncertain, human future.
