In Stanisław Lem's science fiction masterpiece Solaris, psychologist Kris Kelvin arrives at a research station orbiting the mysterious planet Solaris, whose vast ocean appears to be a single, sentient organism. For decades, scientists have studied the planet, yet it remains utterly incomprehensible. Soon after Kelvin's arrival, he encounters a physical manifestation of his dead wife, Rheya—apparently created by the ocean from his deepest memories. As other crew members face similar apparitions born of guilt and longing, Kelvin confronts the limits of human knowledge and the impossibility of communicating with a truly alien intelligence, blurring the boundaries between science, love, and delusion.
