Five Children and It

Five Children and It

Five Children and It, written by E. Nesbit and published in 1902, tells the story of five siblings—Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and their baby brother, the Lamb—who move to the English countryside and discover a strange, ancient sand fairy called the Psammead in a nearby gravel pit. The grumpy creature grants the children one wish per day, but every wish disappears at sunset. Although they wish for beauty, wealth, wings, and giant castles, their desires always lead to chaos, danger, and comic misadventures. Through these magical troubles, the children learn valuable lessons about greed, responsibility, and the wisdom of careful wishing.
