Captains Courageous

Captains Courageous

Captains Courageous, by Rudyard Kipling, tells the story of Harvey Cheyne, the spoiled fifteen-year-old son of a wealthy American railroad magnate. When Harvey falls overboard from a transatlantic liner, he is rescued by the Gloucester fishing schooner "We're Here." Its captain, Disko Troop, refuses to change course, and Harvey must work as a crew member until the boat returns to port. Through months of demanding labor at sea, and guided by the friendship of the captain's son Dan, Harvey transforms from a pampered, arrogant boy into a responsible, self-reliant young man, ultimately returning home changed in character and spirit.
