"The Scarecrow of Oz" (1915) is the ninth book in L. Frank Baum's beloved Oz series. The story follows young Trot and her companion Cap'n Bill, who are swept into a whirlpool and transported to the underground realms beneath Oz. Accompanied by a peculiar bird-like creature called the Ork, they journey to Jinxland, a remote kingdom ruled by the tyrannical King Krewl and the wicked witch Blinkie. There they meet Pon, a gardener's boy in love with the heart-frozen Princess Gloria. When the Scarecrow arrives from the Emerald City, he confronts the villains, defeats the witch, restores Gloria's heart, and brings happiness back to Jinxland.
