Stephen Pink

Steven Pinker, born on September 18, 1954, in Montreal, Canada, is a renowned cognitive psychologist, linguist, and bestselling author. He serves as the Johnstone Family Professor of Psychology at Harvard University and is widely regarded as one of the world's most influential public intellectuals.

Pinker's work explores language, mind, and human nature through the lens of cognitive science and evolutionary psychology. His breakthrough book, The Language Instinct (1994), argued that language is an innate biological adaptation and became an international bestseller. He followed with How the Mind Works (1997) and The Blank Slate (2002), which challenged the idea of humans being born without innate traits.

His monumental work The Better Angels of Our Nature (2011) presented compelling data showing that violence has declined dramatically throughout human history. Enlightenment Now (2018) offered a spirited defense of reason, science, and humanism as engines of progress, while Rationality (2021) examined why logical thinking matters in an increasingly complex world.

Pinker has received numerous honors, including election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was named one of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" in 2004. His writing continues to shape contemporary debates on science and society.
