Two Gentlemen of Verona, an early comedy by William Shakespeare, follows Valentine and Proteus, two close friends from Verona. When both travel to Milan, Valentine falls in love with the Duke's daughter, Silvia. Proteus, who has left behind his devoted beloved Julia, betrays his friend by pursuing Silvia himself, exposing their secret elopement and causing Valentine's banishment. Meanwhile, Julia disguises herself as a male page to follow Proteus, secretly witnessing his treachery. In the forest, Proteus attempts to force Silvia but is stopped by Valentine. Remorseful, Proteus reconciles with Julia, and both couples are happily reunited.
