"A Crystal Age" is a utopian science fiction novel by W.H. Hudson, first published in 1887. The story follows Smith, a young explorer who awakens after an accident to find himself in a distant future where modern civilization has vanished. He discovers an ancient house inhabited by a peaceful pastoral community living in perfect harmony with nature. Their society rejects technology, practices vegetarianism, and organizes family life in ways foreign to him. Smith falls in love with the beautiful Yoletta, but must adapt to their unfamiliar customs to earn a place among them. The novel offers a lyrical critique of Victorian industrial society.
