Rold Dald

Roald Dahl (1916–1990) was a British novelist, short-story writer, poet, and screenwriter, widely regarded as one of the greatest storytellers of the 20th century. Born in Cardiff, Wales, to Norwegian parents, Dahl served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force during World War II before beginning his writing career.

His children's books are celebrated for their wild imagination, dark humor, and memorable characters, often depicting brave children outwitting cruel or absurd adults. His most famous works include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), the tale of young Charlie Bucket's adventures inside Willy Wonka's magical chocolate factory; James and the Giant Peach (1961); Matilda (1988), the story of a brilliant girl with mysterious powers; The BFG (1982), about a kind-hearted giant; The Witches (1983); and Fantastic Mr Fox (1970).

Dahl was also a master of adult short fiction, famous for macabre stories with surprise twist endings, many collected in Tales of the Unexpected. He additionally wrote screenplays for the James Bond film You Only Live Twice and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

With over 250 million books sold worldwide, Dahl's stories have been adapted into beloved films and continue to enchant readers of all ages across the globe.
